Capcom announced during Sony’s pre-Tokyo Game Show 2017 conference that Monster Hunter World will launch on January 26, 2018. While the announcement was made at a Japanese event, PS4 and Xbox One gamers in the West can start slaying monsters on the same date, as the game will see a simultaneous launch across all regions. Meanwhile, the PC version will come at a later unspecified date.

Those who pre-order the game will receive the Origin Set Armor and the Fair Wind Charm. mo will also receive a digital deluxe edition, which has a samurai set, three gestures, two sticker sets, a face paint, and a hairstyle. Meanwhile, the collector’s edition, which costs 15,980 yen, comes with a copy of the game, special collector’s box, soundtrack, hardcover art book, and a figurine of a new monster named Nerurigigantei. For hardcore fans, there will be a 49,980 yen limited edition Monster Hunter: World-themed PS4 Pro console and controller. Pre-orders for these will start on September 20.

Sony also presented a new Monster Hunter: World trailer at TGS 2017, which shows the story premise, some new gameplay, and revealed a few new monsters and environments. Below is the English version of the TGS 2017 trailer.

Monster Hunter: World was first revealed at Sony’s E3 2017 press conference. The transition to more powerful hardware comes with several new changes for the series, such as a freely explorable living, breathing open-world and seamless matchmaking. Unlike past games in the series, Monster Hunter: World will be more accessible to newcomers. Despite Capcom’s plans to break Monster Hunter’s niche status in western markets and appeal to a wider audience, many of the series’ quirks remain, such as cooking meat out in the open world with a portable grill.

What do you think about Monster Hunter: World? Are you interested in the new take on the series? Which platform will you buy the game? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
