According to Activsion the only way you will be able to get Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will be to buy the special editions of the new Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

With the rumor of a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered coming with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, turning out to be true many people have asked if the remastered version of the game will be sold separately. Activision appear to have put a stop to the speculation on the FAQ page of their website.

To the question

“Will Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered come as a separate disc?”

The answer is

No, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is a full game digital download that will be included in the Legacy, Legacy Pro, and Digital Deluxe editions of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Internet connection required.

Ok well just because it isn’t being sold on a disk, doesn’t mean you want be able to get it digitally, right?

Another question seems to answer that though.

“How can I get Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered?”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is only available through the Legacy, Legacy Pro, and Digital Deluxe editions of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.”

In the UK the Legacy Pro edition is exclusive to the retailer GAME, who are selling it for £109.99, while the Legacy edition is being sold for £79.99 at other sellers. That is a pretty hefty price for people who may only interested in the remastered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. In North America there is no such set up, meaning the Legacy Edition will be available at stores for $79.99, with the Legacy Pro running for $119.99 while the digital deluxe is $99.99.

So as of now, according to Activsion they will not be selling Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered separately. Of course in the future they could change their mind, but if they were to turn around on this there is sure to be a lot of people who paid a lot for the Legacy editions will feel hard done by.

Back in 2009 when the first Call of Duty was released on consoles as Call of Duty: Classic, it came with the Hardened and Prestige editions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. However the game was also available for purchase on its own through PSN and Xbox Live Arcade.

They really don’t want people to play their games, do they?

  • So I have to buy a special edition of Infinite Warfare just to get the game I really want?

    Forget it.

That’s pretty much Activision’s target demographic for all their franchises, really. Look at the drooling simps that consist of the Destiny fanbase.

  • I borrowed the games from friends over the years. I’d like to be able to play through the campaigns every now and again.

They want $20 for MW1 and MW2, that’s pretty fair. I’d wait for them to go on sale except they barely ever go on sale. And then Modern Warfare 3 – a nearly five-year-old game at this point – is forty bucks.

These are for games that probably don’t have the most robust online communities anymore, either. And that’s arguably one of the biggest selling points of them.

For about a month or two.
Honestly, who actually believes that they will go through the trouble of rebuilding the game from the ground up /just/ to boost pre-orders? It’s obviously gonna be released digitally at some point next year.
