Minecraft: Story Mode was announced a while back with Telltale leading it up. It will have the now standard episodic storytelling Telltale has become known for, but how well will the aesthetic of Minecraft and gameplay of Telltale mesh? Mojang and Telltale released some info and Minecraft: Story Mode's first trailer. You'll have no trouble finding a system to play it on as Minecraft: Story mode is coming to PC/Mac, Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, iOS and Android. It is also hinted that it may be a download-only title at this time.

The first thing many of you will notice is that, yes, the main character does indeed seem to be voiced by none another than Patton Oswalt. Minecraft: Story Mode will also feature the voices of Brian Posehn, Ashley Johnson, Scott Porter, Martha Plimpton, Dave Fennoy, Corey Feldman, Billy West and Paul Reubens.

From the description of the YouTube video, we can see that it will be a five episode series that promises to take players to "the Nether, the Farlands, the End, and beyond!" The description also includes a synopsis of the story:

Jesse [Patton Oswalt] and his group of friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone; four adventurers who slayed an Ender Dragon. The Order is the very best at what they do: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect. While at EnderCon, Jesse and his friends discover that something is wrong... something dreadful. Terror is unleashed, and they must set out on a journey to find The Order of the Stone if they are to save their world from oblivion.
The story is definitely Minecraft themed and will certainly have the Telltale flair. The trailer portrayed it as having a good amount of humor too, which is no surprise considering the comedians they have in the voice cast.

Owen Hill, Chief Word Officer at Mojang, says that Mojang is "super excited about players digging deeper into the world of Minecraft: Story Mode later this year." While that is no release date, fans can expect to see Minecraft: Story Mode sometime before the year is out.

Mojang says it won't look exactly like Minecraft, but will definitely be familiar. There is no indication, or details, on how the crafting or other systems in Minecraft may or may not make their way into the game.

It will be an interesting step for Telltale and will be one of their first games where they have immense freedom in their storytelling. In others, they have developed stories for established IPs. Minecraft doesn't really have an established narrative/story, other than the familiar situations many players may find themselves in. Now we'll see how well Telltale can create their story "driven by player choice" without a whole lot to lean on other than the charm and aesthetic of a Minecraft world.

What do you think of Minecraft: Story Mode? What do you expect to see from Telltale? Does the trailer make you interested in the game?
