Grab your spandex and get ready to punch some Putty, because Bandai Namco and Saban Brands have revealed that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Mega Battle, a game based on the iconic Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, will be coming to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in January 2017.

A retro-inspired side-scrolling beat-’em-up in the style of classic games like Double Dragon and Streets of Rage (and more recent games like Castle Crashers). Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Mega Battle will unite Viewtiful Joe-style graphics with the classic sound assets and voice acting of the original 90s series. The game allows you to control of one of the six titular Power Rangers through various levels based on episodes of the original series. With the aid of Zordon and Alpha 5, the original five Rangers will be joined by Green Ranger Tommy to take down despicable bad gal Rita Repulsa. Many of Repulsa’s iconic minions will be returning, with Goldar and the Putty Patrollers particularly evident in the trailer. Skeletor-with-Scabies himself, Lord Zedd, will also be making a devilish appearance, as per the plot of the original series.

Thanks to the addition of local multiplayer, players can team up with their friends to take down the evil duo’s minions, and even combine their attacks into special combo moves. Bandai Namco and Saban Brands have promised a deep combat system involving a variety of attacks, including light and heavy attack combos, as well as talent trees for each Ranger that will add new martial arts and weapon moves as you progress. Players will also be able to unlock Green/White Ranger variants for fan favorite Tommy, as well as MMPR series 2 human characters Rocky, Aisha, Adam, and Kat. And finally, when Rita’s magical powers make her minions larger-than-life, players will be able to call upon the support of the mighty Megazord to finish the fight.
