The Miasma Caves Basalt Caves Update is here, adding another layer of depth to this exploration and adventure game from Windy Games. This brings the game up to Version 0.8 in Steam Early Access and brings it one step closer to a full release.

If you haven't heard of Miasma Caves,  it's a pretty neat game that I previewed earlier in the year. Essentially, it's an exploration game that sends you down into the titular caves in search of fantastic treasure. That treasure essentially falls into two categories: better equipment for our heroine Lesath or various artifacts that can simply be sold for money. As players go through the game, they'll get better gear, go deeper into the caves, and expand the village they live in on the surface.

The game just got a little more depth with the Miasma Caves Basalt Caves Update. Detailed in a Steam Community news post, this update adds a deeper, more dangerous layer for players to explore. Players will also be able to see their first hints of the ruins of an ancient civilization. Be careful, though — the floor in this area is much more unstable!

Windy Games' Miasma Caves has been pretty popular with kids, so much so that their convention demo had to add a timer onto it.

Several other graphical updates, bug fixes, and improvements have made their way into the game in this patch. For the immediate future, Windy Games will be focusing on bug fixes and polish before moving on to the next big content update.

We also happened to catch up with Windy Games to talk with them about their game in the year since we saw them last. Since its Steam Early Access release, they've focused on releasing more content bit by bit including new equipment, more variety in caverns, and a complete overhaul on the game's terrain generation underground. The devs said that they have no plans on raising the price post-launch and that any content made after release is going to depend on sales.

The Miasma Caves Basalt Caves update is live right now. If you'd like to pick this up for yourself, you can buy it right now on Steam at a price of $19.99 or your regional equivalent. You can get a better idea of what this game is like by watching its Early Access Trailer 2 below. Miasma Caves should launch out of Steam Early Access sometime before the end of 2019.
