Mi-Clos Studio and Modern Wolf have announced a sequel to 2015's excellent Out There: Ω Edition. It's called Out There: Oceans of Time and it's coming to PC, mobile, and consoles in winter next year.

Out There: Oceans of Time casts you as a space courier entrusted with the Archon, the most dangerous being alive. Unfortunately, the Archon escapes confinement. Now it's up to you to lead a team of explorers, bounty hunters, and other misfits on a galaxy-spanning chase to catch the Archon before it wreaks havoc on the universe. Mi-Clos says you don't need to have played the original Out There to enjoy this one (although we thoroughly recommend you do so). Check out the trailer for Out There: Oceans of Time below:

Mi-Clos claims Out There: Oceans of Time won't just be a traditional sequel. It'll keep the core mechanics of the original game, i.e. resource management, roguelike elements, and interactive fiction. The dev is promising to deliver them "in a much more ambitious manner", according to a press release. There will also be a number of new mechanics exclusive to the sequel, so even if you have played and exhausted Out There, you'll get a fresh experience.

Here's what Mi-Clos and Modern Wolf are promising from Out There: Oceans of Time:

  • Explore a vast universe that is different every time you play
  • Meet strange alien beings and learn to communicate, trade, and conduct diplomacy with them as you build a coalition of allies in your quest to find the Archon
  • Manage your crew and officers, recruiting new members from the alien races you encounter
  • Lead your away teams on daring expeditions to probe derelict spaceships, ancient cities, and desolate planets to learn their secrets
  • Upgrade and maintain your ship, managing scarce resources that can be replenished through trade or planetary exploration
  • Captivating music composed by Siddhartha Barnhoorn (Antichamber, Out There…)
  • Weave your way through an epic branching narrative told through interactive cel-shaded cutscenes written by FibreTigre and illustrated by renowned artist Benjamin Carre (Transformers: Age of Extinction, Alone in the Dark)
If any of that sounds like your jam, you'll have a little while to wait. Out There: Oceans of Time hits mobile, PC, and consoles in winter 2020. We don't have a more specific release date than that yet, so we'll keep you posted. In the meantime, you can wishlist the game via Steam.
