Only a few weeks before release, Metro Exodus is now exclusively being sold on the Epic Games store, as revealed via a post on the official website. Both the standard and Gold Editions will be available, and each is receiving a $10 price drop on Epic’s storefront. That said, anyone who pre-ordered the game on a separate platform will still “receive the game as expected”. Also, all additional updates and DLC will release on Steam as well.

Founder and CEO of Epic, Tim Sweeney, commented on the partnership:

“Metro Exodus is amazing and is deservedly one of the most anticipated PC titles of 2019. We are partnering with Deep Silver to launch Metro Exodus, underpinned by Epic’s marketing support and commitment to offering an 88% revenue split, enabling game creators to further reinvest in building great games and improving the economics of game stores for everybody.”
Additionally, the previous two Metro games will release on the Epic Games store later in the year. Any questions can be answered via this FAQ provided by publisher Deep Silver.

Understandably, Valve isn’t happy with this news. In an announcement on the Metro Exodus steam page, the Half-Life developer calls Epic's new partnership “unfair to Steam customers, especially after a long pre-sale period.”

Valve is not happy with Epic's deals.

In a slight to Valve, Deep Silver CEO Dr. Klemens Kundratitz praised Epic’s “generous revenue terms”. He then calls them a “game changer that will allow publishers to invest more into content creation”.

Not all is lost for Valve, however. A community announcement on the Steam page reads that Exodus will release on Steam come February 14th, 2020. This announcement originally went up, was taken down, and reposted.

Despite its availability on Steam, Deep Silver is pushing gamers to the Epic Store listing thanks to the $10 discount. We can expect to see a ton of canceled pre-orders via Valve’s platform, with developer 4A games taking minimal financial hits thanks to Epic’s 88%/12% revenue split. Exodus hits stores on February 15th this year.

This isn’t the only case of Steam theft, either. Late last year, publisher Skybound games revealed that the final episodes of Telltale’s The Walking Dead would be available exclusively on the Epic Store. Ubisoft did the same with The Division 2 later on.
