In another failed launch for Metal Gear Solid V, the PC Beta for Metal Gear: Online is offline after only about 12 hours, after an exploit was found in the games microtransaction system. But unfortunately for Konami, it doesn't end there.

In what can only be described as an absolute travesty to software engineering, it turns out that the in-game microtransactions actually forgot to charge people for the MotherBase coins they were buying, allowing players to contentiously buy coins and never having to actually pay for them. The official statement on the Steam community page for Metal Gear Solid V is brief and vague, but it is here if you want to check it out.

It has not been a good time lately for Konami, after its spat with Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima, and its tumultuous relationship with its consumers, this is just another nail in the coffin for the public's trust in this once great game company.

What do you think of the latest in the Metal Gear saga?

Quick Take:

I never like to see failure, its not great, but when you can't implement a store properly, or barring that not even run a simple test on it, you really can't help but laugh. After the backlash for implementing micro-transactions in the first place, and then doing stupid things like cancelling Silent Hills, barring Hideo Kojima from the Game Awards, and removing his name from the Metal Gear Solid series entries, it is really hard to muster any sympathy for Konami. There is only so much leeway nostalgia can give a company, and what they have been doing to their series recently will most likely have lost any faith that Konami will ever do anything good again. Its a good thing they are getting out of the games industry I guess ...
