The Sims 4 Get to Work

Developer Maxis has announced the first content expansion for The Sims 4. The Sims 4 Get to Work will include three new careers and, for the first time since the 2006 expansion The Sims 2: Open for Business, allow players to create startup businesses.

The content featured in the expansion includes three new career paths: medical doctor, criminal investigator and inventor. According to an official blog post from The Sims webpage becoming a doctor will require characters to treat sick patients, perform surgery and deliver new Sims into the world. Investigators will be tasked with combing through crime scenes for evidence, interrogating Sims and arresting suspected criminals. Inventors will work on all sorts of technological, biological and scientific projects. The post implies that evil Sims may be able to create devices that can be used to harass other Sims. As part of the inventor career aliens will be introduced to the world. Inventors will be tasked with finding the alien dimension. The expansion adds a local police station, hospital and laboratory, all of which can be explored and customized. Unlike the existing career paths The Sims 4 Get to Work offers player the opportunity to observe characters working in their respective facilities.

The Sims 4 Get to Work will give players the option of creating small retail businesses run by their Sims. According to the post on The Sims webpage players can create bakeries, clothing boutiques, art galleries, book stores and other small shops. These businesses will be located in a new district that will house small, customizable establishments. Proprietors will be able to fully customize the shop, hire employees, set prices and speak to customers as the owner. Baking is a new skill that will be added alongside photography that can be mastered for entrepreneurial benefits. The release of The Sims 4 was unmistakably controversial after developers gave a full list of content that would not be included in the release version of the game. The Sims 4 stands as least critically acclaimed edition of The Sims franchise and one of the worst received by fans.

The Sims 4 Get to Work expansion will cost $39.99, requires the base game of The Sims 4 and is expected to release sometime in April of this year for PC.

Do you think this expansion will ease the criticism of the The Sims 4 or inflame it? Are you happy to see player created businesses return to The Sims franchise?
