Chris Wynn, the senior development director for Mass Effect: Andromeda, announced via his twitter that he has left Bioware and the Mass Effect: Andromeda production.

He said,

it is with a heavy heart today to say that I am moving on from BioWare and Mass Effect: Andromeda, and returning to the USA. The Andromeda team is the most talented team that I have ever worked with, truly inspiring to have worked with you each and every day. I will join the passionate N7 community and will eagerly await the release of a with equal enthusiasm. Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Following Chris Wynn's announcement, Bioware gave a statement to Game Informer.

Chris was a great member of the team. We want to thank him for his contributions and we wish him the best in his new adventures. Development of Mass Effect: Andromeda continues to move full speed ahead at BioWare Montreal, Edmonton and Austin.

Along with Wynn's work on the Mass Effect series he has also worked on Gears of War for Epic and was a producer at Microsoft.

With Mass Effect: Andromeda set to launch in fall of 2016, it is hard to say how much of an impact a senior staff member leaving the project will have. The development of a game like Mass Effect: Andromeda involves hundreds of people working on it, but when a leading member of the team leaves some things will change.

It doesn't appear that Chris Wynn's departure has anything to do with a troubled development or that the game is in any sort of danger. The development director's job is similar to a project manager type, setting up production queues and such. So it is unclear how of this has already been completed.

Back in August of 2014 prominent Mass Effect lead Casey Hudson left Bioware after he himself announced Mass Effect: Andromeda (though the game had no official title then). With the amount of time it takes to make these games, people inevitably move on. Though losing a lead developer is never great news.

Mass Effect is a series that a lot of people have moved on from after Mass Effect 3 but Bioware and EA are clearly eager to continue on the series with Mass Effect: Andromeda launching in fall 2016 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The E3 2015 teaser for the game can be seen below.

Are you excited about a new Mass Effect, or did you say goodbye to the series with Mass Effect 3? Does the departure of Chris Wynn, a senior development director worry you about how the game will turn out?
