It seems like fans of the sequel to Bioware's space opera trilogy Mass Effect will have to to wait a little longer to get their hands on Mass Effect: Andromeda.

During a presentation at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference in San Francisco, chief Electronic Arts financial officer Blake Jorgensen divulged that the game, which was originally set to be released somewhere late this year, will be coming out in early 2017.

During his presentation, Jorgensen also briefly spoke about a new entry in the Battlefield franchise, as well as the sequel to 2014's multiplayer only shooter Titanfall.

We've got a great year ahead... we've got our Battlefield first-person shooter game coming in the third quarter, and our third-party title that Respawn, our partner, built, it's called Titanfall, it's the second title that they brought into that brand. Both of those are first-person shooters and will be targeted around the fast, action-driven shooter market, as well as the strategy-driven market in that quarter.

There is very little known about Mass Effect: Andromeda at this point. What we do know is that the new entry is unrelated to the events in the original Mass Effect trilogy and will take place in the titular Andromeda galaxy. Players will be meeting new alien races as well as some familiar ones, but the story itself will be set long after the events of Mass Effect 3 have concluded. Whether this delay is related to lead writer Chris Schlerf and lead developer Chris Wynn leaving the project is unknown, but one could reasonably assume that this has something to do with the game's delay.

We here at Techraptor are excited to try it out for ourselves as well. Our very own Robert Grosso recently wrote an editorial on Mass Effect: Andromeda and why he's looking forward to playing it himself. You can check that out here.

Mass Effect: Andromeda will be Bioware's next big undertaking after Dragon Age: Inquisition and will be released on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Are you looking forward to Mass Effect: Andromeda? Why are/aren't you?

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
