Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series

Telltale Games is known for its episodic adventure game format, and follows in their trend of adapting pop culture licenses like Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series. The game was released in five parts, with the first part debuting April 18, 2017 and the final episode released November 9, 2017.

The plot follows the eponymous Guardians protagonists from the Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy movie franchise—Star Lord, Groot, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon and Drax—as they end up in intergalactic mischief. After battling and defeating Thanos at the behest of the Nova Corps, the Guardians celebrate at Knowhere in possession of an artifact they got from Thanos called the Eternity Forge. Post-celebration, they are attacked by Kree forces lead by Hala the Accuser, a foe the Guardians have faced in the Marvel comics since 2015.

Without spoiling too much of the plot, after a face-off with Hala, the Guardians discover that the Eternity Forge has powers that each of them want to use for their own ends, as does Hala. Of course, this being the Guardians of the Galaxy, they can’t just sit down and talk it out like rational people, which creates even more problems to deal with than just Hala.

Several familiar faces from the movies and comics make an appearance including Quill’s adoptive father Yondu, Gamora’s sister Nebula, and comic book member of the Guardians, the empath Mantis. Of course, this is strictly out of Marvel’s MCU continuity as a whole, but knowledge of the movies is helpful when playing the game. The game also uses music to give the story even more of an impact, and each episode is named for a song.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series is available on iOS, Android, PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Mac OS X systems.
