Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be receiving free Labo VR updates on April 25th.

Each game will approach its VR content in a slightly different way. Super Mario Odyssey will add three new missions in which players will collect coins and music notes. These three missions will take place across the Seaside, Luncheon, and Cap Kingdoms. The rest of the game won't be Labo-compatible as far as we know. Nintendo describes the new Mario Odyssey content as a "bite-sized bonus experience in simple, family-friendly VR".

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is getting altogether more comprehensive VR compatibility. Once the software patch is applied, players will be able to switch in and out of Labo VR mode as they please. Any part of Breath of the Wild can, therefore, be enjoyed with the Labo VR kit (except for pre-rendered cutscenes). You won't need to start a new file to enjoy Breath of the Wild in VR, either. You can simply switch the functionality on and off from the game's main menu. Software updates for both games will land on April 25th, two weeks after the Labo VR kit is released. You'll just need to update the games via your Nintendo Switch's menu screen to apply the updates.

Nintendo Labo VR - or, to give it its full title, Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 4: VR Kit - was announced in March this year. It comes complete with six new Toy-Con creations, each of which connects with the new Toy-Con VR Goggles. There will be two packages available at launch: the full VR Kit, which will retail for $79.99, and a stripped-back Starter Set, which will cost $39.99. The latter contains only the Goggles and Toy-Con Blaster module. If you do purchase the basic set and want more, then expansion modules will be available for $19.99 containing two Toy-Cons each.
