Mario Kart Tour, the mobile game version of the popular kart-racing series, has reached 20,000,000 downloads on its first day of service on between iOS and the Google Play store. This makes it the biggest mobile game launch of all time, eclipsing the former record holder Pokemon Go.

Mario Kart Tour has been a huge success for Nintendo with it pulling in triple the number of downloads that its next most downloaded game, Super Mario Run, which managed 7,000,000 downloads, had on its launch day. According to numbers found at Sensor Tower, Tour also managed to rake in a million dollars worth of sales during the same one day period. Which, while impressive, is only a quarter of what Fire Emblem Heroes pull in during the same period. Mario Kart Tour's monetization features a virtual currency that you use with the game's gacha system to unlock items and characters at random, as well as a Gold Pass which unlocks unique content like 200cc. Any income from this though isn't shown yet as the game launched with a two week free trial of the Gold Pass for everyone.

Notably, Mario Kart Tour has managed to achieve a high level of regard with fans, possessing an average rating of 4.7 on iOS and 4.3 on the Google Play Store. The sample data for the overall rating sees Tour with 188,934 five star reviews with a mere 9,075 one-star reviews. These impressive ratings are also backed by a myriad of users reviews, which praise the game's similarity of the Mario Kart games of the past, as well as the game's graphics and nostalgia factor. Negative reviews take a different direction, with fans having an issue with the game requiring a Nintendo account in order to play, as well as its reliance on gacha mechanics in order to unlock new racers and other items.

Mario Kart Tour launched on September 25th, after being announced in January of 2018 by Nintendo. It is the first game in the series to appear on a non-Nintendo platform, as well as the first on mobile phones. Other Nintendo mobile games include Fire Emblem Heroes, Super Mario Run, and Animal Crossing Pocket Camp.
