Nintendo has revealed some new facts and features coming to the updated version of Mario Kart 8. This version, titled Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, offers the quintessential Mario Kart experience exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is overflowing with new content. The five new characters (Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, King Boo, Dry Bones and Bowser Jr.) bring the total number of racers to 42, a record for the beloved series. New karts inspired by Splatoon, the ability to hold two items at once, returning items like the itemstealing Boo and jumping Feather, a new Smart Steering control option, and even more awesome features truly make this the definitive version of an already classic game.
The game's Battle Mode, which has players use a variety of weapons on each other in one of eight arenas, has also been given some new functionality. This mode has been completely revamped by Nintendo and allows players to tweak a bunch of parameters, both on and offline.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also features a new mode in addition to returning mainstays of the Mario Kart franchise.

A new mode is 'Renegade Roundup'. In this mode, one team will try to put the other team behind bars before the timer runs out. The defending team is able to get their teammates out of jail by pressing a putting under the jail cell.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also chimes in the return of the classic 'Balloon Battle' mode found in older entries into the franchise. 'Bob-omb Blast' is also making a glorious return since its debut in Mario Kart: Double Dash. In this mode, players have to take out the opposing team by using a tried-and-tested pillar of gaming: excessive violence using everyone's favorite wind-up bomb.

Then there's the 'Coin Runners' mode which has you collect as many coins as possible within the timeframe. Lastly, there's the Shine Thief mode. In this mode, you'll have to steal a Shine Sprite and hold it for 20 seconds to win the game. The opposing team can steal the Shine Thief from you and get to 20 seconds before your team can.

Traditional splitscreen returns with up to four players (additional accessories are required and are sold separately) by docking the Nintendo Switch system, but players can also undock the system, detach the JoyCon controllers and use them horizontally to play anywhere comfortably with two players. In addition, races can be played online or hosted in LAN multiplayer sessions with up to 12 players (additional games and systems are required). Two players can even share one Nintendo Switch system when experiencing LAN play.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is scheduled to release on April 28 for $59.99 as a Nintendo Switch exclusive. A wheel accessory to use with the device's Joycon controllers can also be bought for $14.99 per pair.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
