Sony is bringing in some big hitters for this month's PS+ lineup with two console exclusives, while also dropping bad news for anybody who hasn't upgraded to the PlayStation 4 since it launched nearly 5 years ago.

Bloodborne, the critically-acclaimed 2015 exclusive from Hidetaka Miyazaki’s studio From Software, developers of Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls is the first title on the listBloodborne is an action-RPG that shares loads of elements with the Souls series, including its notoriously unforgiving combat, roguelike elements, and dense lore. We gave it a 9/10.

Ratchet & Clank provides a much lighter tone as the second title is Insomniac Games' 2016 reimagining of their PS2 Platforming classic by the same name. Rather than just being a run-of-the-mill remaster, Insomniac rebuilt the game from the ground-up taking only inspiration from the original, capturing its essence while also producing a game fit for players today and to go with the film of the same year.

Mighty No. 9 is a Kickstarter-funded platformer heavily inspired by classic Mega Man games, our reviewer gave it a 6. While the game had more than its share of difficulties there were some elements that can be worth seeing - at the very least to see how such a promising pitch turned out.

Legend of Kay-Anniversary is a remaster of an action-adventure PS2 game about a feline martial-artist on a quest to rid his homeland of invading gorillas and rats. It received a 4.5 from us.

Claire: Extended Cut is a 2D horror that was ported over to the Vita after a console release in 2014. Our reviewer found it so frightening that they "didn't want to play it at night,".

Bombing Busters is a strategy arcade game the borrows heavily from the Bomberman series, tasking the player (or players) with placing bombs throughout a maze to blow up walls and enemies within a time limit.

Mighty No. 9, Claire: Extended Cut, and Bombing Busters all feature PS4 cross-buy, meaning that those on the PlayStation 4 will be able to play it on that system as well.

Dungeon Defenders II players can download a 'PS Plus Pack' from March 13 to April 10. The pack gives players 1 million gold, 4 costumes, a pet, 5 Campaign Shard packs, and 5 Defender packs.

Along with the two big PS+ games, Sony has announced that starting March 2019 (roughly a year from now), PS+ will no longer include free PS3 and PS Vita games for subscribers, only offering two PS4 games every month.

Quick Take

This month's games are some of the best the service has ever had, possibly an attempt on Sony's part to take attention away from the bad news. Their dropping of PS3 and Vita games from the roster has been expected for a while; with the PS4 launch being over 5 years old by now, it was only a matter of time until they entirely focussed their subscription service on their current-gen console. Unfortunately, after February 2019, PS+ subscribers will only be given two PS4 games to download each month. This leaves just one-third of the number of titles currently available every month, so hopefully, Sony offsets this drop in quantity of games with a rise in the quality.
