Wizards of the Coast has announced today that it is entering into a partnership with the streaming giant Twitch, and that moving forward all Magic: The Gathering event coverage will be featured on Twitch streams. This includes the Grand Prix, the World Magic Cup, and Pro Tours. Prior to this announcement, Magic: The Gathering events were streamed on YouTube as well as Twitch, allowing interested viewers to see coverage of events in areas where Twitch was blocked or banned.

According to Helene Bergeot, the Director of Organized Play at Wizards of the Coast, "We’ve had a strong relationship with Twitch for years, and this agreement will make our partnership stronger and push coverage of our flagship Magic events to a new level. We’re incredibly excited to work together to grow the viewership of Magic premier play events." The announcement from Wizards of the Coast also states that the partnership with Twitch will allow for more English streams of international events and the possibility of collaborated sponsorships.

This announcement comes right before the start of the annual World Magic Cup, which features teams of some of the best pro players coming together to compete for cash prizes and trophies; this announcement from Wizards of the Coast states that more information about the new partnership with Twitch will be made available during the World Magic Cup.

Reaction to this announcement on the reddit Magic: The Gathering subreddit has been mixed, with some users saying that the YouTube streaming experience was of a higher quality with less lag than that of Twitch, and that their workplaces block Twitch, leaving them unable to watch coverage of Magic: The Gathering events. Others have pointed out that the potential sponsorships may lead to higher production value for Wizards of the Coast, allowing for smoother streaming experiences.
