Lode Runner Legacy Ladders

Lode Runner Legacy, the latest iteration of the Lode Runner platformer games, will be landing on Steam on July 13, 2017, according to a press release from publisher Tozai Games.

Gameplay for Lode Runner is pretty standard platformer fare - you must navigate through levels collecting gold and avoiding the enemies of the Evil Empire. Although these are well-established tropes by now, they were breaking new ground at the game's original release in 1983. Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov considered it a favorite game of his for "many, many years", owing to the game's puzzle mechanics and variety in level designs. A trailer for the game has been released alongside the press release.

Lode Runner Legacy will feature a few different gameplay modes including Adventure Mode and a Puzzle Mode free of any enemies. The game's original 150 levels will be playable in the new engine. Serious Lode Runner aficionados can take advantage of a level editor, character editor, and item editor to make custom experiences to their taste. User-created "World Levels" will also be available as an additional challenge for players to tackle if they so desire. Although the original game was a side-scroller, an optional "FPS Camera Mode" will allow fans both new and old to see the game from a new perspective.

Tozai Games specializes in releasing fresh new takes on classic games; their catalog includes R-Type Dimensions and Spelunker HD, both of which are updated takes on classic games of yesteryear. If you'd like to get your hands on Lode Runner Legacy you won't have to wait for much longer. In the meantime, you can add the game to your wishlist on Steam before Lode Runner Legacy releases on Steam for the PC on July 13, 2017.
