Update: BioWare has investigated the issue and seem to have found the cause. They are currently working on a fix, according the game's community manager:

Hey everyone – Thanks for the feedback on this. I have confirmed with the team that this is in fact a bug related specifically to the default items on a loadout in combination with higher level gear you have equipped. It’s not functioning as intended and the team is working on it for an upcoming fix.

Original Story: Anthem's crashing and console bricking problems are still prevalent, but there's another issue plaguing the game as well. In a title where loot is so essential to the core gameplay, one Reddit user found that one of the game's starting guns does more damage than some of the best weapons you can get in Anthem.

This is according to /u/YeetLordSupreme, who provided a very detailed thread on the matter. He conducted a test to prove that the level 1 Defender Rifle does more damage than his Level 45 Masterwork gun. For the unaware, a Masterwork is some of the highest quality items you can get in Anthem and these are the types of items you would normally aim for during end-game content.

YeetLordSupreme notes that his level 1 gun is listed to do 286 damage against a standard enemy, while his Masterwork rifle has 1184 damage listed. Yet, when he conducted tests, he found that his level 1 gun killed the enemy faster and with less bullets than with what should be one of the best guns in the game. The level 1 rifle killed the enemy with 4 bullets instead of the Masterwork's 6 bullets. He told TechRaptor that this phenomenon is prevalent in all game modes including strongholds, missions, and freeplay.

Several other users came in to display their own findings. They provided gifs to prove that YeetLordSupreme's experience isn't a fluke at all.

This thread immediately became very popular on Anthem's subreddit and as such, BioWare has caught wind of the issue. Brenon Holmes, Technical Design Director for Anthem, said this:

We'll need to investigate this, scaling systems are supposed to allow low level players to play with high level players to be effective against high level enemies.

This is not intended, something ain't right there...

Seeing as this is on the team's radar, we can expect a fix to happen sometime soon, although we're still waiting on a fix for the issue with Anthem crashing PlayStation 4s. Although, this issue is concerning as there is no incentive to get better loot when what should be the worst gun outperforms the best.

We're in the process of attempting to learn more about this situation and will update you when we find out more.
