The zombie vs. Spartan game mode, Infection, is a Halo staple. 343 Industries is giving us a Halloween treat with some new Infection updates to both Halo 5: Guardians and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

In addition to Double XP up to the end of October, there are new Infection maps and modes -- think of them as modes within a mode! Outlined in 343's latest blog post on Halo Waypoint, Castle Raid is the first new mode:

Castle Raid is a brand-new mode designed to add a new gameplay element to the standard Infection experience. In this storm-the-castle mode, survivors must break into the Infected’s lair, steal a skull from a haunted casket, and then burn it in a pit of fire.
Of course, standing in your way are a bunch of Energy Sword-wielding Infected, so they've equipped players with a COG Assault Rifle and Threat Marker SMG. 343 Industries teamed up with "community member and scripting expert" Sn1p3r C.

The second mode, Speed Demons, sounds terrifying. Extremely fast Infected, armed with Energy Swords and Gravity Hammers, attempt to catch players in vehicles and those unlucky enough to be without one. The last mode, Contingency, comes with tons of new maps created by Forge player Auxi Klutch:

Players will run from location to location as new rooms and pathways unlock around the map until they can make it and survive in the final zone.
Auxi Clutch's Forge-created maps, The Burrows and The Green Zone, are accompanied by two others for the Contingency game mode: Bleak Rock by Preacher X21X and Coastal Highway by CommanderColson.

And for Halo: The Master Chief Collection owners, you were not forgotten either. A new playlist for infection games features maps from Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4. Lastly, from now until Halloween, those who play a match of Infection in The Master Chief Collection will get a Flood-themed nameplate for lobbies.

Quick Take

I've had probably the most fun playing Infection out of any mode in Halo. Halo 3's Zombie House map was my absolute favorite, because of its tight quarters and intense gameplay. I remember finding out all these great spots to hide in with my buddies as we take on dozens of Infected. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go relive my childhood.

Are you going to play any Infection games this Halloween? What's your favorite Infection memory? Let us know in the comments below!
