Twilight Princess

The rumor mill is churning about another Zelda rerelease on the 3DS, even before Majora's Mask 3D is released in two days' time. According to Zelda Informer, fan-made site for everything pertaining to Nintendo's much-beloved franchise, several GameStop employees around the US have spoken with a female rep for Nintendo of America claiming that the Big N is considering releasing this Wii and GameCube title for the New 3DS.

To be fair, GameStop sales associates have never been the most trusted source of gaming information, particularly when it comes to rumors. Hearing something from a possible source who heard something isn't exactly something by which to set one's wristwatch. But on the other side of fairness, these were the same sources who spoke with a Nintendo store representative (also female), who hinted strongly at the rumors for Majora's Mask 3D long before it was formally announced in November 2014's Nintendo Direct.

There is also some weight to the argument through other sources. In a recent interview with The Nikkei, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says their current aim is to release remakes of older titles for Nintendo's New 3DS console, perhaps in the same way as Majora's Mask 3D, as well as releasing titles already available on the booming mobile market. This has already been seen in the announcement of Xenoblade Chronicles 3D; we know that the New 3DS' enhanced hardware is more than capable of rendering Wii games in 3D. Not to mention that the additional buttons on the new hardware makes games like Zelda, where one needs to access inventory (ideally) without delay, much more playable.

Time will tell if this is actually going to happen, but remakes are still all the rage in the gaming industry. There's also the possibility of Twilight Princess being remade for the Wii U, what with The Wind Waker HD's release in 2013.

Keep your pointy hats and Hylian shields on standby.
