Some extra details about The Last of Us: Part 2 were discussed at the Naughty Dog panel at the PlayStation Experience event.

Most of the information was discussing some vague bits about the game, although it does confirm things implied by the amazing reveal trailer to the public. The Last of Us: Part 2 will star Ellie as the main protagonist, and the game takes place when she is nineteen years old.

According to Neil Druckmann, the Creative Director of The Last of Us: Part 2, the game will feature a theme about "hate" compared to the first game which focused on a theme about love between the two protagonists, Joel and Ellie. The advanced age of Ellie and her demeanor in the in-game trailer showcased a hatred that wasn't present before. Druckmann wouldn't go into further details regarding Ellie, but noted that she will play differently than Joel did in the first game.

Druckmann also went into why the game is called "Part 2" instead of a straight up sequel, stating that the game will have a "complementary story to the first game" with both titles making up for a larger story.

Apparently, Naughty Dog has been sitting on The Last of Us: Part 2 for a while now. Druckmann revealed at the panel that Naughty Dog and Sony went back and forth on when to release the trailer to the public as far back as E3 this year. Most of the team at Naughty Dog, however, felt the Playstation Experience would be a better fit. If you want to see the full panel, check here:
