LAN Story Cup 2017 was a special tournament invitational held in Shanghai, China. It consisted of 16 players: 8 qualified Chinese players, and 8 invited international players. Due to being held on the same weekend as E-Sports Festival Hong Kong, the players here obviously had to choose to forgo CPT points in Hong Kong for big money in Shanghai, with LAN Story Cup offering a big prize pool valued at $50,000.

Streaming was held by Chinese service, Zhanqi TV. As usual, players will be listed in “[sponsor/team name] | [player name] [[characters used]]” format. However, due to LAN Story Cup not using Smash.gg to organize brackets, we will not be able to provide links to them.

Street Fighter V

Due to being a specialized event featuring one game, top 16 will be listed instead of top 8.

  • 1. RZR | Xian [Ibuki]
  • 2. Echo Fox | Tokido [Akuma]
  • 3. Zowie | Oil King [Rashid]
  • 4. BX3 | Phenom [Necalli]
  • 5. RB | Bonchan [Nash, Karin]
  • 5. AW | Nemo [Urien]
  • 7. DNG | Itabashi Zangief [Zangief]

  • 9. Qanba | Abao [Ryu]

  • 13. FightClub | UD [Cammy]
  • 13. HuomaoTV | LiJun [Akuma]

  • 13. HuomaoTV | QiuQiu [Urien]
The special invitees for LAN Story were Xian, Tokido, Phenom, Bonchan, Nemo, Itazan, Xiao Hai, and NuckleDu. As you can plainly see, the tournament was mostly easy pickings for them, with the exception of Oil King, the only qualified player who managed to break into top 8. As mentioned, none of these players were rewarded with CPT points as this was an independent invitational event that isn't part of the Capcom Pro Tour, but it doesn't really matter much to the invitees, as all eight of them are already within qualification range for Capcom Cup.

Xian's first place finish here granted him a hefty chunk of the prize pool, with $30,000 going straight to him. Bonchan finally whipped out the Karin he's been practicing for a while, and American elite NuckleDu was stonewalled out of top 8 by Xiao Hai, who has been his ongoing Street Fighter V rival for quite some time.
