At the Paris Games Week, Disney and Square Enix have just announced their plans to release an HD remastered compilation of six titles from the Kingdom Hearts franchise for the PlayStation 4. The compilation, titled Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix, is a compilation of the following titles set to release on March 28, 2017, which is also the franchise's 15th anniversary.

  • Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
  • Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories
  • Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
  • Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix
  • Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep Final Mix
  • Kingdom Hearts Re:coded
A trailer video for the compilation was put out on the official YouTube channel and is viewable below.

Additionally, the full opening movie for the upcoming PlayStation 4 title Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue was unveiled at the same show; this is set for release on January 12, 2017 in Japan and worldwide on January 24, 2017. This is an HD compilation featuring Kingdom Hearts HD 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep–A Fragmentary Passage, and Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover. Please note that despite the title similarities to Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix, this compilation features different titles that primarily focus on the events that occur before and after the main series.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix is available for pre-ordering on Amazon for $49.99, while Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue can be pre-ordered on Amazon for $59.96 (disclosure: these are TechRaptor affiliate links).

Quick Take

It's nice to see most of the franchise together on one disk for a current generation console, but I do wish that Disney and Square Enix would just release the next title already, instead of spending so much time on doing these updated, high-definition re-release compilations. It's very hard to keep up with the franchise when most of the recent content has been along those lines.
