Lo-Fi Games' Kenshi will be getting a sequel (appropriately titled Kenshi 2) in the future. Understandably, the playerbase for Kenshi was a bit concerned that this would result in the abandonment of the first game, but the developers have come out with a plan to ensure the success of both games in the coming months.

If you haven't heard of Kenshi, that's no surprise—this is a title that's flown somewhat under the radar. While the graphics are less than stellar, the gameplay is pretty solid and well-liked by many RPG fans. Players are dropped into an open-world where there is no destined hero of the ages. Everyone and anyone can be your equal and it's all about how you play it. This simplicity and flexibility makes Kenshi an appealing game for RPG fans, and now it will be complemented with the sequel Kenshi 2.

Players were a bit concern that Kenshi would be abandoned following a news post which stated that the developers were hard at work on their next game. In response to this outcry, the devs released a discussion post detailing their plans for the future. Kenshi 2 will be set 1,000 years in the past and build out more of the world's lore. The new game will make use of the same code base and engine, although the engine will be upgraded to the latest available version. Work on the engine upgrade for Kenshi 2 will also be applied to Kenshi, so both games will benefit from the development process of the sequel.

Other improvements made to the sequel may potentially be transferred to the first game as well. The developers aren't keen on closing up shop on Kenshi anytime soon, so fans need not worry about the game going anywhere. If you don't yet already own Kenshi, you can pick up a copy for yourself on Steam for $29.99 or your regional equivalent.

What do you think of Kenshi 2 being developed? Does the immediate announcement of a sequel make you less likely to buy the first game? Let us know in the comments below!
