Over the course of a 50 minute live gameplay demo of Cyberpunk 2077 at E3 2019, we learned a lot more about Keanu Reeves' character Johnny Silverhand.

Johnny Silverhand is presumed dead, living on only in a mysterious chip planted in main character V's head as a digital ghost. Seeing it in action during the gameplay, it immediately reminded me of the Joker in Batman: Arkham Knight.

Johnny will offer his thoughts on a given situation, tell V where they should go next, and comment on something another character said to V in a conversation. From what was shown at the point of the game—somewhere in the middle—V trusts Johnny and values what he says as well.

The full extent of Johnny's role in the game remains to be seen, but one of the big mysteries focused on in the gameplay demo was who planted that chip into V and why. So, it appears Keanu is playing a much bigger role than a simple cameo.

As for Johnny's history prior to Cyberpunk 2077, he's a known character from the pen and paper RPG the game is based on. Johnny's a rockerboy in the Cyberpunk universe, those who use music to get their message out against the corruption in the government and corporations.

To cut things short, Johnny helps lead an assault on a corporation that leads to his presumed death, his body never recovered. That's the last anyone knew of his status until he was revealed at the Xbox Briefing on Sunday.

So, there's definitely a lot of mystery about what is going on with Keanu's character Johnny and just how big of a deal he will be. Does he have his own agenda? Is he just there to help V? Is he a guiding hand to help V navigate the complex and brutal world of Night City?

We'll all have to wait of course, but there's plenty CD Projekt RED could do with Johnny. There's plenty more coverage on Cyberpunk 2077, so check out the link to our E3 2019 Coverage Hub below.
