Jade Raymond, the former producer of the Assassins Creed series at Ubisoft, is heading a new studio for Electronic Arts.

“I’m happy to announce that I’m joining Electronic Arts and opening Motive, a new development studio in my home town of Montreal, Canada.”said Raymond on an EA blog this morning.

She has stated that Motive will focus on generating new IP, and will be a creative-driven studio. The first title Raymond and her new team shall be involved with is a new Star Wars IP that Visceral is currently developing under the creative direction of Amy Hennig. Raymond will be working closely with the BioWare Montreal team, now headed by Yanick Roy. She is also overseeing Visceral Games, the creators of Dead Space and Battlefield: Hardline.

Hennig joined Visceral last year as the creative director for a Star Wars adventure game, which according to famed voice actor Nolan North, is “Star Wars in the style of Uncharted.” “I’ve also known Amy for years and have admired her work on the Uncharted games!” exclaimed Raymond in her blog post. “I’m thrilled that the first big project that we will work on in Montreal will have Amy as Creative Director.”

Raymond is a twenty year veteran in the gaming industry, working first for Sony Online as a programmer. She was instrumental in the creation of Sony Online’s first Research and Development group.Raymond has also previously worked for Electronic Arts with The Sims Online, and was a part-time correspondent for the G4 show The Electric Playground before joining Ubisoft Montreal in 2004.

Raymond is perhaps best known as the producer and executive producer of the first two Assassin’s Creed games, and was also an executive producer of Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell: Blacklist, before leaving Ubisoft in October 2014. “I cannot think of a more exciting time to be a part of EA than right now, stated Raymond on her blog post. “We talked about how EA wants to deliver more innovative experiences and more of what players are asking for. It’s energizing to see EA today bringing more passion than ever to the games they make, and passion to getting it right for players.”
