A new FMV indie game called The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker from D’Avekki Studios has recently launched a Steam Greenlight Campaign. The game is a first-person murder mystery with Lovecraftian overtones. If Greenlighted, the game should be available by the end of the year.

The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker casts players in the role of a psychiatrist taking over the treatment of the late Doctor Dekker’s former patients.

All of his patients are unusual and as players interview them they’ll unravel the nonlinear storyline and discover clues to solve the doctor’s murder. The game encourages players to not only solve the case but to help patients with their mental issues as they interact with them.

This unique game allows players to type their own questions instead of choosing from a pre-determined list when questioning patients. The character’s responses to your own questions will come from a large pool (over 1600) of full-screen HD videos providing many possible outcomes for any given playthrough of the game.  Patients will ask questions of their psychiatrist as well and players will also be able to answer with their own words. Your unique responses will have an impact on the storyline and will determine which of the multiple endings you can experience.

“We’ve made the game we wanted to play, with hours of full screen video and a freedom of speech interface — ask the characters anything just by typing it,” explains D’Avekki Studios director Tim Cowles. “The player is essentially the protagonist — the Doctor who all the patients look to for help, so you’re not just passively observing. You’re right in there making real-time decisions that affect each character’s psychological well-being.”

The husband and wife team of indie creators have experience making murder mystery dinner party games and designed the game to progress in a series of five rounds. During each round, the player will have a chance to interview patients during their sessions. When the five rounds are up, hopefully, you’ll have enough clues to determine which patient is the murderer.

The game includes 6 main suspects as well as 5 additional characters, which includes John Guilor of Contradiction: Spot the Liar!. The murderer will be chosen at random at the start of the game so you can play through multiple times and discuss the game spoiler free.

The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker is currently available to vote for on Steam Greenlight and having already been voted into the top 100 will likely be releasing by the end of the year for PC, Mac and Linux.
