Here's one game you probably didn't expect to see as a TV show: Hyper Light Drifter. Yet, as Polygon reveals, an adaption for this 2016 action game is in the works.

Polygon reports that Axl Preston, the creator of Hyper Light Drifter, and Adi Shankar, are working on this show. Adi Shankar is known for producing the excellent TV adaption for Castlevania on Netflix, and also has a Devil May Cry series currently in the works.

Right now there are no confirmed writers, and the series is in a very early stage so far. According to Polygon's story, Preston and Shankar are looking at a possible anime style to the show. Another challenge in creating the show is that Hyper Light Drifter was a game with no dialogue.

Hyper Light Drifter is a 2D action game with a pixelized art style. There are abilities and upgrades the player uses to fight off various enemies and bosses. There is a large overworld with different biomes and dungeons.

The game was the product of a successful Kickstarter, and more recently Hyper Light Drifter made its way to the Nintendo Switch late last year. If you want to buy the game for yourself before its TV iteration comes out, it is available on all platforms with the exception of mobile. Quick Take

I'm very excited to see what becomes of this show. First off, Adi Shankar did an excellent job with Castlevania and undoubtedly the Devil May Cry show will be a great time too. I did not expect to see this game getting a TV adaption, but the world of Hyper Light Drifter is mysterious and has a lot of potential. There is definitely the challenge of voice acting, since as I mentioned there is none in the main game. I think that the action-packed gameplay will translate well over to the TV show, though.
