Appropriately timed for the frightening season, the first-person survival game Home Sweet Home is coming to consoles. The game will release on Xbox One with Xbox One X support, PSVR, and PlayStation 4 on October 9th, with an exclusive GameStop physical release in North American markets on October 16th.
In development by Yggdrazil Game Group and publishing via Mastiff, Home Sweet Home is based around Thai mythology. The game is the first in a series of horror games. Here, players must navigate a disfigured house in search of the main character’s wife.
Playing as Tim, you’ll face evil spirits pulled from real-world Thai lore. Taking after games like Outlast, your only defense is to run and hide – no weapons. Fortunately, Home Sweet Home enables players to take a break with investigative and stealth sections.
Saroot Tubloy, COO of Yggdrazil Game Group, commented on the collaboration:
“We are very excited to be working with Mastiff in order to bring the dark, Thai-inspired world of Home Sweet Home to consoles. The game’s real-world lore and mythology is sure to captivate and intrigue players, while its brooding narrative keeps them clinging to the edge of their seat.”
Home Sweet Home released on PC via Steam in September of last year. Gamers seem to have liked it, with the title holding “Very Positive” in both the “All Reviews” and “Recent Reviews” categories. You can view the brutal announcement trailer below.
Having played a ton of horror games, Home Sweet Home looks like another haunted house I’d love to explore. However, I can’t say it seems entirely unique. Here’s hoping the Thai lore presents an unusual story instead of a retread of the generic “searching for my wife” plot.
