Hitman

The beta (read: demo. I'll just use their terminology for consistency's sake) for the Hitman reboot is coming up this weekend, and publisher Square Enix have divulged some more info regarding the preorder exclusive beta.

The beta, which has the full prologue available for play, will require an always-online connection for the duration of the beta. The game itself, however, will be playable without an active internet connection after you've downloaded an episode but doing so means you'll miss out on the game's live events. These events are weekly contracts created by both IO Interactive and the community which require you to be online to participate. The prologue will serve as an introduction to the game's mechanics, and has 2 training "hits" for you to play. These 2 hits can be played as many times as you want for the duration of the beta. Contracts will not be available in the beta.

Square Enix made a nice little FAQ for the beta on the official website. The beta is available to everyone who preordered the full experience or the intro pack digitally, or the physical collector's edition on either the PlayStation 4 or the PC. If you've preordered the full experience on a physical DVD you will not have access to the beta since this version will not be released until some later time in 2016. If you're on Xbox One you unfortunately won't be able to participate in the beta, nor will you be able to preorder the game.

PlayStation 4 players will gain access to the beta on February 12 at 11:00 CET and runs until 11:00 CET on the 15th. PC players will gain access on the 19th at 11:00 CET and runs until 11:00 CET on the 22nd. To download the beta, you can either check the PSN Store on the date the beta starts and download it from there, or simply install the beta from your Steam client. If you've bought the digital version from a third-party retailer you will receive a beta code before the beta starts. All progress made during the beta will be void once the game launches. There is no NDA on the beta's content so you can stream, record and share footage if you like. Make sure you've got 4.7GB available on your hard drives! If you want to see if your system can run Hitman, you can check out the requirements on the Steam Store.

Hitman is scheduled to release on March 11 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game found itself amidst a bit of controversy when developer IO Interactive and publisher Square Enix decided to adopt an episodic format for the game, releasing a new sandbox level each month. The developer has since gone back on that, claiming now that it's a platform for content, not an episodic game. If you want to know what to expect from the game once it releases, you can check out a little overview we wrote here.

I've been playing games since I was just barely able to walk so I might as well write about them.
