Hearthstone Tavern Brawl Rewards Card Back and is Bonkers

Although it can suffer from recycled events and some not-too-interesting challenges, Hearthstone’s Tavern Brawls are often a testing ground for the developers’ new and wacky ideas. This week really stands out by being both an unusual match against an A.I. competitor and for rewarding players with a shiny new card back instead of a traditional card pack from the Classic set.

The new card back and Brawl are part of Blizzard’s 20th anniversary of Diablo celebration. You will face off against “The Dark Wanderer,” a Warlock who equips three secrets at the start of the game. Beyond just defeating the foe, you are challenged to reveal all of his secrets during the game, which are unique secrets that aren’t taken from the existing card pool. There are also various unusual mechanics, for example: when one of your opponent’s minions dies, it will summon a zero-attack minion with a death rattle that benefits you. The Dark Wanderer also has a unique hero power, which summons a random imp for 2 mana.

Diablo 20th Hearthstone Card Back

Since much of the challenge revolves around uncovering the Dark Wanderer’s secrets, some notable cards have been excluded from the full Wild card pool to be used when constructing a deck. The maligned neutral card, Eater of Secrets, and Hunter’s Flare are off the table as these would pretty much ruin the fun.

If you reveal all of the opponent’s three secrets across multiple games, nothing too interesting occurs. The real challenge is revealing all of the secrets in a single session. Don’t worry, we won’t spoil the secrets or what results when you reveal all three during a game, but trust us, you want to make sure you do this. You will earn the commemorative card back just by defeating the Dark Wanderer, which is a pretty easy feat. If you’re the sort of brawl player who tries to rack up the wins every week for kicks, there are lots of stats presented at the end of this special match to give you a way to strive for higher and higher numbers.

Were you able to uncover all three secrets in a single match? Do you think this is a good way for Hearthstone to celebrate Diablo's birhtday? Let us know how you did and if you found any crazy interactions!
