A Hat In Time will be receiving a host of new features for free in 2018.

The game's developers Gears for Breakfast confirmed the incoming update via the game's official Twitter account. New features and content fans can expect it to include the following:

New Game Plus: Players will be able to begin a new game of A Hat In Time carrying over certain upgrades and items from their previous game.

2-player co-op: For the first time, players will be able to play A Hat In Time with a friend. Gears for Breakfast has confirmed that the game will initially only support 2 players.

A new chapter: An entirely new chapter will be offered to players for free. There is no word yet on what this chapter will contain or what exactly players can expect from it.

Replying to a fan's inquiry on Twitter, Gears for Breakfast clarified that there is no official release date for this update yet. In Gears for Breakfast's characteristic humorous style, the tweet went on to say fans should expect the update on "the very last day of 2018".

A Hat In Time originally appeared on Kickstarter in 2013, having been in development since 2012. All of the game's initial stretch goals were met, including all of the aforementioned features, plus extra voice acting options and a hub level. Two free worlds have been announced as forthcoming DLC.

The game was released worldwide in October 2017 for PC. Ports for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One followed in December. Developers Gears for Breakfast describe A Hat In Time as a "cute-as-heck platformer" which references 3D platforming classics such as Super Mario 64Banjo-Kazooie and Psychonauts. Players must explore expansive 3D levels and obtain "Time Pieces", while also collecting currency to upgrade their abilities.
