Niantic is getting ready to release their follow-up to the massively successful phone game Pokemon Go in the form of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. The new title takes the same formula used to create Pokemon Go and Ingress and transplant it into the exceedingly popular Harry Potter universe. The new game has begun the intensive process of Beta testing exclusively in New Zealand ahead of its release late this year.

Pokemon Go has been downloaded over 1 billion times since it was released back in 2016 and has since seen numerous updates from Niantic. These have included adding new Gym Features, Trainer Battles, an enhanced photo mode, and more taking advantage of the ongoing development. They even re-released Ingress updated with lessons learned from working on Pokemon GoHarry Potter: Wizards Unite is Niantic's attempt to strike digital gold once again by pairing their game mechanics into a new franchise.

The new game will feature a lot of similarities to Go, tasking players with exploring the real world to discover magical items and events. From what is known about the game so far it seems like players will have to cast spells, fight enemies and even free magical beasts which get into trouble. Unlike Pokemon Go, the game doesn't appear to sort players into teams, or houses, focusing instead on co-operation between different wizards. The game will also have a proper story which will be a multi-year narrative which seems to indicate that Niantic is expecting to have another big success on their hands.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be releasing at some point in 2019 on iOS and Android. Fans in New Zealand can download the app right now to be part of the Harry Potter: Wizards Unite beta test. If you want to learn more about Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Niantic released some information last month that you can study for the upcoming adventure.
