Halo 5 Guardians

Game Informer has unveiled a host of new details for Halo 5: Guardians. The October release will feature a co-op campaign where Master Chief is accompanied by Blue Team, characters that fans of the extended fiction will be very familiar with. Kelly, Linda and Fred are John's original team of SPARTAN-IIs, fighting alongside him in battles taking place before the fall of Reach as well as just after the events of Halo: Combat Evolved.

Kelly is speedy even before strapping on her armor, Linda is a renowned sniper, and Fred is a close quarters specialist and Master Chief's former commanding officer. Each member of Blue Team will feature a weapon loadout that plays to their distinctive strengths, and John will be able to give orders to his companions in the single player campaign.

Master Chief and his team in Halo 5 is operating outside the jurisdiction of the UNSC, meaning that Spartan Locke has been brought in with Fireteam Osiris, a group of more advanced Spartans to track and reclaim the Master Chief. Nathan Fillion is coming back as Buck, a character last seen in Halo 3: ODST, and GI's footage suggests that Buck has been upgraded to a Spartan and aligns with Locke during the game.

Of course, some only come to Halo for the multiplayer, and there is good news on that front as well. 343 Industries has committed to the most robust online arena experience in franchise history, which means 20 maps on the disc and 15 more released for free by June of next year. This is the first time that this has happened since Bungie made their DLC maps free after a few months back in the Halo 2 days, and it will mean much more map variety in matchmaking for the majority of the game's lifespan.

Are you excited about Halo 5: Guardians? Will any other tertiary Halo characters show up in the campaign? Are they REALLY going to stick with that thing from Halo 4's ending? Answer these questions and more in the comments below!
