Anvil’s Legacy is Halo 5‘s next free content update, and it’s bringing many features that veteran fans of the franchise will stand up and take notice of. Perhaps the biggest update is the release of Halo 5’s Forge mode as a free to play experience on Windows 10. As previously reported, players will be able to create maps using mouse and keyboard, allowing for the most precise recreations of Hang ’em High ever seen. In addition, players will be able to host custom Halo 5 games on PC, meaning that computer gamers will get to try their hand at Halo 5’s robust Arena multiplayer for the first time and test the Halo waters before Halo Wars 2.

If you’re not already a Forge mapmaker, don’t fret! The Anvil’s Legacy update has something for everyone. Perhaps the most exciting is the addition of a Hunter’s Fuel Rod Cannon arm as a usable turret sized weapon. Anyone who has ever played any Halo mod has seen attempts to bring the lumbering green energy weapon to a playable state, and seeing it officially integrated into the game’s multiplayer is a thrill. In addition, there will be a new Gunfighter Magnum added to the game as well as your standard array of skins and other cosmetic REQs.

Players who enjoyed the Attack on Sanghelios Warzone map added in the last update will be pleased to hear that there are two more battlefields being added in from the Elite homeworld. Continuing with the naming tradition started with Truth and Regret, Mercy is a Halo 5 update of Haven, the Halo 4 map that was one of the highlights of that game’s entire multiplayer suite. Temple is the Warzone Assault version of Attack on Sanghelios, and the Halo Waypoint update promises that it will be built “from the ground up” to offer a unique experience.

Halo 5 players on Xbox One and mapmakers on Windows 10 can join in on the fun starting on September 8th.

What is your opinion of the Anvil’s Legacy update? Are you as excited as I am to grab a Hunter Cannon and blast away some Grunts? Let us know in the comments below!
