Double Fine is bringing two adventures games, the classic Grim Fandango and the Kickstarter Broken Age, to the Nintendo Switch.

The announcement came from E3 this year, during a live reading of the Grim Fandango script from the original voice cast, plus special guest Jack Black. Tim Schafer presided the event as the narrator. The event, which was a celebration of the game's 20th anniversary, also included live music from composer Peter McConnell. The full reading of the event can be found in the video below.

Grim Fandango Remastered is a classic adventure game featuring a clever combination of Mexican folklore mixed with film noir.  Players will star as Manny Calavera, a travel agent at the Department of Death, and must uncover a conspiracy that threatens his own salvation.

Broken Age is a brand new adventure game that is described as a "timeless coming-of-age story of barfing trees and talking spoons." Players will freely switch between two different characters with their own individual stories, helping them take control of their own lives and dealing with the unexpected adventures that follow. Topping it all off, Broken Age features all-star voice cast, including Jennifer Hale, Elijah Wood, and Jack Black.

Both games are already available on multiple platforms. Grim Fandango Remastered is already on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, iOS and Android devices. Broken Age is found on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, iOS and Android devices.

No details on when the games will be released have been given at this time, other than they will be coming soon to the console.

Quick Take

First, the reading they did was damn fun to watch, and I encourage folks to check it out. As to the announcement, it just makes sense and I am sure both games, once they are released on the Nintendo Switch, will be very popular on the system. Grim Fandango alone is a game that should be remembered, it was the first game I ever talked about with Gaming Obscura after all.
