Players will be able to build and manage a classic tavern in a fantasy setting. They’ll be tasked with serving customers from different races and classes (in both the economic and gameplay senses, I’m sure). You’ll have to hire and manage staff to keep your tavern running smoothly. Supplies will also be a concern; the player must balance the needs of their tavern against their storage capacity and what merchants have available for sale.
As you play through the game, your tavern’s reputation will grow and you’ll be able to expand it. One example of note is how a bigger kitchen will allow you to make more exotic dishes. You’ll have to sate the needs of your customers whether it be for food, drink, services, or entertainment. Random events will occasionally pop up and either help or hinder the success of your business.
Tavern Keeper is currently in a closed internal alpha. Greenheart Games has stated that they don’t intend to develop the game “in the open”; as such, the best way to keep apprised of the game’s progress is to keep an eye on the game’s official Twitter, their forums, or other social media. While they haven’t set a firm release date, Greenheart Games is currently aiming to get a beta out sometime in 2018.
Tavern Keeper has been in development by Greenheart Games since late 2014. The title will be the studio’s second game following their release of Game Dev Tycoon in December of 2012. Game Dev Tycoon was perhaps best known for (good gameplay aside) an anti-piracy trap built into the game that caused pirated players’ businesses to fail.
