While 2017 has been a great year for gaming with many fantastic releases, not all of them are going to do as well as one would hope. Gravity Rush 2 launched at the beginning of the year to some solid reviews, but it seems not enough people are sticking with the game to make its online worth keeping up. Sony has announced that Gravity Rush 2's online mode will be shut down at the start of 2018.

Gravity Rush 2 follows the adventures of Kat, a woman who can control gravity and use it to fling herself around a pair of open world cities while fighting monsters and robots. While the game is mainly a single player open world game, you eventually get a camera that you can use to take pictures. You can leave these pictures for other players to find, and send them on treasure hunts to get special rewards. Doing this earns you Dusty Tokens, which you can then spend on props for your pictures or new costumes for Kat.

Unfortunately this mode won't be around much longer. Sony has announced that Gravity Rush 2's online will be shut down on January 19th, 2018 at 12am EST. If you still haven't earned a costume you wanted, then you at least have a chance. Starting today and lasting until the service is shut down, Gravity Rush 2 will be running an event where you earn more Dusty Tokens from participating in online activities.

Gravity Rush 2 is available exclusively on PlayStation 4. If you want to know more about the game, you can read our review of it here. You can also read our review of its free DLC expansion.

Quick Take:

On one hand, it sort of sucks that the online is being shut down exactly a year after launch.

On the other hand, I reviewed the game and totally forgot it had an online competent after I finished. It's such a non-essential part to the game that I doubt many people will actually miss it or even remember its existence after a few weeks. Gravity Rush 2 was great for reasons entirely unrelated to the online mode.
