XSEED Games announced that 2d fighter Granblue Fantasy: Versus will get an official English localization for North American PS4s sometime in the future. Granblue Fantasy: Versus is being co-developed by mobile developer and original IP creator Cygames and legendary fighting game studio Arc System Works. It's slated to come out sometime later this year in Japan. Granblue Fantasy: Versus will have a playable demo at E3 later this week, showing off five playable characters. Set to release in Japan later in 2019, we should see it come to our shores next year.

Taking place within the Granblue Fantasy universe, Versus pits players in 1v1 PVP action, or against AI. In the original mobile game, an unwitting captain gets caught in the crossfire between a nefarious empire and ancient, gargantuan monsters. The player character-captain finds their soul fused with a strange girl on the run from the empire, and watches as the girl summons a giant monster, chasing away the empire in the process. Now, the captain must flee from the advancing empire, acquiring powerful allies and enemies alike along the way. Known for gorgeous art and a fully realized world, Granblue Fantasy is fully a "gacha" game, where more allies are added to your collection via loot box analogs. Still, one would expect to see popular characters appear in Versus, aside from the five already announced.

Granblue Fantasy: Versus is a 2D fighter born out of the wildly popular mobile game in Japan. Since its original release in 2014, it's reportedly grossed over $500 million and has only increased in popularity since its initial launch. Versus is not the only Granblue Fantasy console game in development either, as Granblue Fantasy: Relink, a third-person action RPG is also slated to come to consoles sometime in the future. With E3 set to open just next week, we'll see more of Versus soon.
