Gold Rush! 2, the sequel to the 1988 adventure game Gold Rush!, is launching on Steam on April 28, 2017, according to a press release.

Gold Rush! was an adventure game released in 1988 by Sierra On-Line, a company that is perhaps best known in the adventure gaming scene for the King's Quest series of games. Set in 1848, the player takes on the role of Brooklyn newspaperman Jerrod Wilson who ventures out west to California to meet his long-lost brother. Although this might sound like a hook to transport a city boy into a more frontier environment, this was a large chunk of the game itself - the player had to make their way across the United States. The journey was made all the more perilous and challenging by the onset of the California Gold Rush which saw thousands of people heading out West in searchw of fortune.

Gold Rush! 2 is set in 1869, a little over 20 years after the original story. Jerrod Wilson has been running a successful mine and sending his money back east to be sensibly invested. Troubled by the news of a criminal politician back home in New York, Jerrod will return home on a journey to right some wrongs - if he can make it there.

The game boasts "far more than 80" prerendered scenes and images in full HD, new recorded music, and optimized point and click controls. This game isn't being made by just any software development firm - the original developers themselves have retained the rights to the franchise and have created the sequel themselves. Suffice to say, if you liked the original Gold Rush! you will probably find something you'll enjoy in the sequel.

Gold Rush! 2 will be launching on Steam on April 28, 2017. Although no price has yet been announced, the Steam store page is up and you can add it to your wishlist for now. If you'd like to take a crack at the original game, you might want to check out the Anniversary Edition on Steam.

What did you think of the original Gold Rush!? Do you think that the sequel will be able to live up to the original nearly 30 years later? Let us know in the comments below!
