No Man's Sky Next launched yesterday and has already been a massive success for Hello Games, but it is, once again, not without some hiccups along the way.
The GOG version of No Man's Sky Next was released, but players found that their version of Next will not have the online multiplayer.
Hello Games responded to the problem quickly, saying that the DRM-free version of the game will not have the multiplayer mode ready until a later date. "We expect it to be released later this year as full multiplayer parity remains in the pipeline." Read the joint statement between GOG and Hello Games. The remainder of the features, including the 3rd person mode, graphical changes and fleets of ships remain intact for players today.
In response to this, GOG itself is offering a full refund for those who have purchased No Man's Sky but have declined to wait for the multiplayer addition. GOG is extending the refund policy to all owners of No Man's Sky, and promises to issue refunds in wallet funds to any player who decides to contact their customer support team.
Players can request a refund until this Sunday, July 29th, 6 PM EST.
Despite the major hiccup on GOG, No Man's Sky Next has seen a massive resurgence in popularity to the space sim game since its launch in 2016. Estimates on SteamCharts have seen the game surge to over 50,000 concurrent players, and has been holding steady since then, along with the game outselling GTA 5 in the "Top Sellers" category. These numbers also do not showcase players on the PlayStation 4 or recently released Xbox One version of the game.
No Man's Sky Next is a free update to No Man's Sky, first released in 2016. The update added a four-person online multiplayer component to the game for the first time, along with a third person mode and other features. This is the fourth major update to the game since its launch, with Hello Games promising more updates and community input in the coming months.
