Duck Hunt fans, rejoice! You soon may be able to take aim at those foul fowls on an HDTV.

Video game peripheral manufacturer Hyperkin is planning to announce that they are currently working a brand new, NES-style zapper designed specifically to work on modern, HDTV sets.

Titled the Hyper Blaster HD by most reports, the new zapper is designed specifically for NES-styled Light Gun games that can be used on HDTVs. Per Hyperkin's press release:

• Play Duck Hunt for the NES with a light gun on an HDTV (original Duck Hunt cartridge and NES required) • Includes special Hyper Blaster HD light gun • Includes Hyper Blaster HD Adapter to allow HDTV compatibility
It seems that the Hyper Blaster HD will be compatible only for classic game consoles over modern ones, though no further details have been shared at this time.

Hyperkin is expected to reveal more information on the Hyper Blaster HD, along with other products they are currently working on, at the 2019 International CES Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Convention begins today, and will continue until January 11th, 2019.

Quick Take

One of the sad truths about video games is how easily the technology is outpaced thanks to the advent of HD and 4K and all of these video outputs. Digital distribution through Nintendo's Online service only does so much for games kind of married to peripherals like Duck Hunt and Wild Gunman, so the fact that Hyperkin is getting ready to release a light gun specifically for modern technology is impressive.

Considering it seems to only work with the classic consoles too, it is likely that the Hyper Gun HD will be a must have for collectors and avid game fans like myself, who want to play light gun style games on an HDTV. It also makes me curious to see if Hyperkin or other peripheral companies will begin to cater to that niche of the population more, as products like this will be more important going forward.

What do you think though? Is the Hyper Gun HD worth it? Leave your comments below.
