Gen Con 2016 Ice Cool

Gen Con 2016 is no stranger to new and unique games for players to check out, play, and purchase. One of the games we checked out this year that was especially “cool” is Ice Cool, a game that has you flicking penguins across the icy floor of a penguin school as you try and grab fish hanging in the doorways without being caught by the hall monitor.

The premise of the game is simple: flick your penguin through the doors that have fish coinciding with your color and collect all of your fish without being caught. The round ends when either all players have been caught by the hall monitor or one player has gotten all of their fish, and the game ends when all players have had a turn as the monitor.

Despite the simplicity of Ice Cool, there is a great amount of skill involved when it comes to moving around the school. As you’ll see in the demo below, if you flick your penguin right, you’ll be able to curve it around doors, corners, and other players. If you’re really ambitious, you can even flick your penguin just right to jump over walls!

One of the great things about the game is how easy it is to setup and break down, due to how you use the box itself as part of the game, with the bottom half and inside boxes being used to form the game board. Tie them together with a fish, and you’re ready to play!

We had a great time talking with Egils about the game, and despite the fact that he stomped us in the game, it’s definitely one worth checking out! Brain Games actually sold all of their copies in the first day of Gen Con!

Recently, TechRaptor reviewed Ice Cool, giving it a "Very Good" rating. If you’d like to grab your own copy, they’ll be available soon, so check out the official site or stay tuned to their Twitter or Facebook
