The Witcher Adventure Game

Once in a long while, we get introduced to something special. A board game so magnificent, so daring, so eloquent in execution that we can only fall to our knees and weep at the beauty laid before us. Fantasy Flight’s The Witcher Adventure Game may not be that game, but it’s still pretty darn good. Our team got a chance to get up close and personal with the beta version of this game at Gen Con 2014.

The Witcher Adventure Game is based on a popular series of books that have spawned a series of graphic novels, a movie, a tv show, and a series of video games. It’s no wonder why Fantasy Flight was chosen to produce the game as they’ve been very successful at taking big name IPs and translating the feel and setting into a fun and impactful board game. The Witcher Adventure Game is no different.

From FFG's Website:

You and up to three friends will take on the roles of beloved characters from the Witcher universe and travel across the dangerous wilds, battling monsters, completing quests, earning gold and victory points, and vying for ultimate triumph. Along the way, you’ll craft an unforgettable narrative, unique to each and every game.

In the video below, you'll get a chance to see the version Fantasy Flight had at Gen Con 2014:

We each took control of one of the Witcher characters and set off to be the first one to complete a quest. The normal game end happens when someone completes four main quests, but for demo purposes we only played to one. Each of us had an amazing experience and the game really did craft a unique narrative as we bungled our way across the continent. Or in my case, I spent most of the time hanging out in the north trying to quell the wolf and bear population. I'm not particularly familiar with the Witcher setting but I found myself wanting to buy the game right then and there.

Unfortunately, The Witcher Adventure Game isn't available yet. However, we should be looking forward to a Q4 release later this year!
