Rod Ferguson arrived on today's Inside Xbox stream to announce that Gears 5 will be hitting TBS in a six-episode event series and live tournament. The first episode of the series starts airing on June 14th at 11PM EST. Going behind the curtain of the competition, The Coalition is teaming with ELeague for the broadcast, which will document the lives of players surrounding the matches. ELeague is a Turner-owned entity that has previously broadcasted for games like Mortal Kombat and Rocket League.
This broadcast will include footage from Gears 5 multiplayer, the first such footage to be made public. Eight of the top Gears of War teams from around the world will compete at the ELeague Arena at Turner Studios in Atlanta to show off the new game. This event will be broadcasted on Twitch, taking place after the series airs on July 13-14.
The TBS series, titled ELEAGUE Gears Summer Series: The Bonds and Betrayals of Brotherhood, will cover six professional Gears players over the course of six episodes. You'll see them transition from Gears of War 4 to Gears 5. From all reports, they will probably also be practicing with their shotguns. There are lots of shotguns in Gears of War multiplayer.
Gears 5 currently doesn't have an assigned release date besides "2019", but that's expected to change in June at Xbox's E3 showing. Gears 5 is expected to hit this fall, anchoring Microsoft's first party holiday lineup.
