borderlands 3 fixes

Since Borderlands 3 launched, it's enjoyed a pretty positive reception, not least from us here at TechRaptor. Nevertheless, most modern games run into problems at launch, and Gearbox's looter-shooter has been no exception. Gearbox is working on fixes for the game, but in the meantime, the studio has posted a few DIY fixes you can try yourself. Here's a little preview of some of the things Gearbox says you can fix at home.

Borderlands 3 General Fixes

  • Reward items will be distributed via the game's in-game mail system. You won't be able to access them from the main menu. If your mail is full, you'll need to free up some space before you can claim pre-order bonuses and the like.
  • You may encounter a bug where you can't make progress in solo play after skipping ahead in online co-op. If you can't progress, or you find you can't interact with doors and NPCs, queue into another instance of Campaign Matchmaking and advance your mission progress that way.

Borderlands 3 PC Fixes

  • You shouldn't encounter any more problems with cloud saves after the recent hotfix. If you still do, the only option right now is to disable them via the Epic Games launcher.
  • Framerate and performance issues can be countered by setting your graphics API to DirectX11 and reducing the Volumetric Fog setting.
  • If you're playing on an ultrawide monitor and encounter cutscene issues, turn off FidelityFX Sharpening in the Visuals menu.
  • Changing in-game language settings can currently only be done via command-line arguments on the Epic Games launcher. You can read a full list of supported languages, along with their prompts, here.

Borderlands 3 Console Fixes

  • If you're struggling with framerate and performance on PS4 or Xbox One, go to the Network and Social menu and reduce the "Social Notification Frequency" setting. This should reduce the rate of friend progression messages you receive and improve the performance.
  • If you're a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X user, you should switch from Resolution mode to Performance mode if you're experiencing problems with performance.

Gearbox says it's working on fixes for the problems detailed above, but these are ways you can address them yourself if they're causing serious hassle. We don't have a timeline on when fixes will be released yet, so we'll keep you posted.
