Nintendo Switch Pre-orders Sold Out GameStop

It's starting to look like Nintendo's new little box with a screen is pretty popular. Not only are they becoming impossible to find online, but pre-orders are also sold out at GameStop stores across the country.

The Switch, Nintendo's seventh home console is set to arrive on March 3rd with a retail price of $299.99. As part of our ongoing coverage, we reported earlier today that Nintendo was not anticipating having supply issues with the Switch. Reggie Fils-Aimé, Nintendo of America’s president and chief operating officer recently revealed to Wired that the company will ship two million consoles worldwide within the first three weeks of March. Fils-Aimé went on to say that he does not foresee a similar issue for the Switch as the NES Classic, because with that system they were caught off guard by the overwhelming demand.

It looks like Nintendo may be under-anticipating demand again. Talking with my local GameStop manager, I can confirm that not only are they completely sold out, but they also had to turn away "a bunch" of customers that had lined up before the store opened Saturday morning.

GameStop's senior vice president of merchandising Bob Puzon told IGN that ,"The company is working with Nintendo to get additional units and "will let our customers know when they become available."

On the brighter side, I can report that Nintendo's other sold out console should be back in stock at GameStop stores this February! The NES Classic comes packed with 30 amazing games. Make sure you check out our coverage of this awesome retro system.

If you are as excited about the Nintendo Switch as we are, check TechRaptor frequently this week, as we have some pretty cool stuff coming up soon!

What do you think of this news? Are you surprised that Nintendo doesn't have enough stock to meet the demand?
