GameStop Reveals Top 10 Most Sought-After Games Out of E3 2019

GameStop has published a top 10 list of the most "sought-after games" coming out of E3 2019, based on the number of customer pre-orders from the retailer's database. E3 2019 included more than 200 title announcements, and so the U.S.-based gaming community has voted with their wallets to make up this top 10 list, which does include a couple of surprises. GameStop VP of Merchandising Eric Bright commented on the list

Videogames are in our DNA and as top retailer in gaming, we have the data and inside track to forecast and understand what consumers really want to play. As evident from E3, the gaming industry continues to grow and we’re right in the middle of a hot category where our 40,000 plus store associates will be helping customers access their favorite videogames.
And so goes the top 10 list of games revealed or whose release has been confirmed at E3, based on pre-order ranking from GameStop’s database, with the release dates included for reference.
  1. Call of Duty Modern Warfare (10-25-19)
  2. Pokemon Sword/Shield (11-15-19)
  3. Final Fantasy VII Remake (3-3-20)
  4. Cyberpunk 2077 (4-16-20)
  5. Borderlands 3 (9-13-19)
  6. Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) (9-20-19)
  7. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (11-15-19)
  8. Gears 5 (9-6-19)
  9. Super Mario Maker 2 (6-28-19)
  10. Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled (6-21-19)
E3 2019 had more than 66,000 attendees, with millions more around the world watching live streams and covering the conferences as publishers and platform holders took center stage to unveil some of the most highly anticipated games in the next several months. During the E3 week, GameStop saw an increase of 63% in pre-orders for those new titles announced, which they hope reaffirms the retailer's place in U.S.-based gaming culture as the top destination for fans to purchase their favorite and most anticipated games.

The list is probably easily explained by demographics, but it does include a couple of surprises, especially compared with the lists of most viewed YouTube trailers, and highest rated trailers, which we reported on last week. For one, Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled managed to break into the top 10, though it didn't make it into those other lists, and neither did Pokemon Sword/Shield, which almost tops the list. The data used for those lists was worldwide, however, and the GameStop data is exclusively based on the consumer habits of U.S.-based gamers.

What do you think of the list? Did you pre-order any of those games from GameStop? Let us know in the comments below!
