The first announcement of Gamescom Opening Night Live is a franchise revival, Comanche. As is the norm with THQ Nordic acquiring games left and right, they announced Comanche with a teaser trailer and some gameplay. It's an online multiplayer shooter with a focus on team-based combat. Teams of four will compete against each other in a mixture of helicopter and drone warfare.

The developer, Nukklear, mentioned on stage that people can sign up for the alpha on their website starting today. A brief blurb about the story behind Comanche is available below.

After the Iran-US RQ170 incident, in which a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) was hacked and captured through cyberwarfare, the US army secretly revived the development of the RAH-66 helicopter program for special operations. The goal was to develop a highly maneuverable, highly advanced stealth war machine for impervious and mountainous terrain, that can deploy unhackable low-range drones to operate in high-risk environments. The program was a full success, and the Comanche special units seemed unstoppable in their missions.
If the franchise sounds familiar to you, it's because it first released in 1992 and has had nine different games and bundles since then. The latest aside from this reveal was the fourth one in 2001. The focus on drone warfare is a big shift from the original games, but their way of updating the setting to modern warfare.

Possibly Class Options in Comanche

The website for the revival mentions different helicopter and drone combinations available to players, "Pick one of many Comanche/Drone combinations armed with varied weapons and unique gadgets that compliments your playing style" It's unknown if this means customizable load-outs or specific classes for example.

Comanche will release on Steam Early Access sometime in Q1 2020. The trailer gameplay is available below, fresh from Gamescom ONL.
